Last week, Dr. Jonathan Ruminson had the opportunity to serve in Africa on a dental mission trip, providing care to people with limited access to dental services.
Throughout the week, Dr. Ruminson examined patients, treated dental problems, helped relieve pain, and cared for children who, in some cases, may have been experiencing dental care for the very first time.
But some of the most meaningful moments happened in between the treatments.
They were found in comforting a nervous child, seeing the relief on someone’s face after their pain was addressed, and connecting with families whose lives and circumstances may look very different from our own.
For Dr. Ruminson, the experience was a reminder of something that is easy to forget in the busyness of everyday dentistry: sometimes what feels routine to us can mean everything to the person sitting in the dental chair.
Access to dental care can have an impact far beyond a person’s smile. Untreated dental problems can affect someone’s comfort and everyday life, which is why providing care to underserved communities can be so meaningful.
Dr. Ruminson returned home grateful—not only for the opportunity to use his skills to help others, but for the people he met and the moments they shared.
At Inspire Kids Dental, caring for children has always been about more than treating teeth. It’s about helping kids feel safe, cared for, and important.
We’re so proud to see that same heart for children and families carried far beyond our own community. ❤️
